The essentials
According to Eiga.com, the 2027 release of the film “Kaiju No. 8”, the conclusion of the animated series, was announced on 24 October at the “Bōeitai Bootcamp in Tachikawa” event. A “super teaser visual” was also unveiled. Production of the concluding film had already been revealed at Jump Festa 2026, at the end of 2025.
The work
Naoya Matsumoto’s manga is published in Shōnen Jump+. It has 16 volumes and more than 20 million copies in circulation in Japan, print and digital combined. The animation is by Production I.G, and Studio Khara handles the kaijū in particular.
The series so far
The first season began in April 2024 on TV Tokyo and its affiliated stations, with worldwide real-time streaming on X. The second season ended in September 2025. In September 2026, an original short, “Narumi no heijitsu”, was released on YouTube.
Visual and comment
The visual is drawn by art director Shinji Kimura, already on the series: an immense unidentified kaijū and a ruined landscape. Katsuya Fukunishi, the voice of Kafka Hibino (Kaiju No. 8), explains that the series will conclude with the 2027 film and finds it fateful that next year he will be 32, Kafka’s age. He promises to give his best.

01The present indicative
est / sont + attribute (noun, adjective, prepositional phrase)
Les dates d’annonce, des faits et de vérification sont distinctes.Key pointsÊtre in the present is est for a singular subject and sont for a plural one. It describes nature, state or place (“is”, “is located”). If what follows (the attribute) is a noun, adjective or prepositional phrase, it is not a passive. If a past participle follows, it is a passive (est annoncé). Headlines and summaries often use the present to describe the current situation.
02The passé composé
present of avoir + past participle
La première saison a débuté en avril 2024 sur TV Tokyo et ses stations affiliées, avec diffusion mondiale en temps réel sur X.Key pointsThe passé composé is the most common past tense, used for “did” and “has done” — actions completed in the past. It is formed with the auxiliary avoir (a / ont…) in the present + a past participle. Past participles of -er verbs end in -é (annoncer → annoncé); learn the irregular ones (faire → fait, prendre → pris, voir → vu). In the negative, ne … pas wraps the auxiliary (n’a pas annoncé). In the news it reports facts that have already happened, such as “announced” or “voted”.
03The passé composé of pronominal verbs
se + present of être + past participle
La deuxième saison s’est terminée en septembre 2025.Key pointsThe passé composé of a pronominal verb (se + verb) always uses être as auxiliary (il s’est diffusé / elles se sont réunies). Se changes with the subject: me, te, se, nous, vous. The past participle usually agrees with the subject in gender and number.
04The imparfait
stem (nous form of the present) + -ais / -ait / -ions / -iez / -aient
La production du film de conclusion avait déjà été révélée à la Jump Festa 2026, fin 2025.Key pointsThe imparfait describes states, background, habits and actions in progress in the past (il était, elle avait, ils pensaient). Take the nous form of the present, drop -ons, and add -ais / -ais / -ait / -ions / -iez / -aient. If the passé composé gives “the event itself”, the imparfait paints “the situation at the time”.
05The futur simple
stem (infinitive) + -ai / -as / -a / -ons / -ez / -ont
« Kaiju n° 8 : le film » sortira en 2027 comme conclusion de l’anime, annoncé lors d’un événement à TachikawaKey pointsThe futur simple means “will do” or “is planned to”. Add -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont to the infinitive (participer → il participera). Watch the irregular stems: être → ser-, avoir → aur-, aller → ir-, faire → fer-, pouvoir → pourr-, voir → verr-. In the news it is used for fixed plans and outlooks.
06The present conditional
stem (infinitive) + -ais / -ait / -ions / -iez / -aient
Le 24 octobre, lors d’un événement à Tachikawa, il a été annoncé que le film « Kaiju n° 8 », conclusion de l’anime, sortirait en 2027.Key pointsThe conditional expresses possibility, supposition, unconfirmed information and polite requests (“would”, “might”). It uses the same stem as the future and the same endings as the imparfait (-ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient): pouvoir → il pourrait. In the news it is used to avoid asserting, as in “is reported to…” or “there is a possibility…”.
07The passive voice in the present
être (est / sont) + past participle (+ par / de)
Le manga de Naoya Matsumoto est publié dans Shōnen Jump+.Key pointsThe passive means “is done” or “is being done”. It is formed with être + past participle, which agrees with the subject in gender and number (la mesure est adoptée / les mesures sont adoptées). The agent is introduced by par (or de). In the news it is common when the event, rather than the actor, is the focus (est prévu / est annoncé / est connu).
08The passive in the passé composé
a / ont été + past participle
Le 24 octobre, lors d’un événement à Tachikawa, il a été annoncé que le film « Kaiju n° 8 », conclusion de l’anime, sortirait en 2027.Key pointsThe past passive means “was done”. Its form is present of avoir + été (past participle of être) + past participle. Été does not change, but the last participle agrees with the subject in gender and number (la loi a été votée / les textes ont été votés). It is frequent in news reporting results such as votes, decisions and announcements.
09The imperative
present vous form (-ez) / nous (-ons) / tu
Suivez les annonces officielles.Key pointsThe imperative expresses commands, requests and advice. It has no subject: the sentence starts with the verb (Consultez les informations.). The vous form ends in -ez, nous in -ons (Restons prudents.), and tu in -e for -er verbs (Consulte). It is very common in notices and warnings (Vérifiez, Consultez, Restez informé).
10Negation and its scope
ne / n’ … pas · ne … plus
In the article consulté, l’intrigue détaillée, la date de sortie précise et le nombre de salles ne sont pas indiqués.Key pointsNormally ne and pas wrap the verb. Before a vowel, ne becomes n’. Check which part of the sentence the negation covers. Ne … plus means “no longer”.
11Citing a source with selon
selon + noun / organisation
Selon Eiga.com, la sortie en 2027 du film « Kaiju n° 8 », conclusion de la série animée, a été annoncée le 24 octobre lors de l’événement « Bōeitai Bootcamp in Tachikawa ».Key pointsSelon means “according to”. Put a person or organisation after it as the source. It separates facts the writer checked directly from what another body or report said. Citing a source does not turn a forecast into an accomplished fact.
12Dates and their prepositions
le + 日付 / du … au …
Le 24 octobre, lors d’un événement à Tachikawa, il a été annoncé que le film « Kaiju n° 8 », conclusion de l’anime, sortirait en 2027.Key pointsLe 15 octobre means “on 15 October”. Distinguish the le before a date from the le that marks a weekly habit like a weekday. Du is de + le and au is à + le, so decide the meaning from the verb and period expressions around them. Their role depends on the group: a range of dates, the date of a bulletin or another complement.
13Million and milliard followed by de
number + million(s) / milliard(s) + de + noun
Il compte 16 volumes et plus de 20 millions d’exemplaires en circulation au Japon, papier et numérique confondus.Key pointsMillion and milliard are nouns, so use de before what is counted. Before a vowel it becomes d’. Mille works differently: look at the quantity as a whole instead of applying the same form.

01Citing a source: によると
noun + によると
映画.comによると、24日、「防衛隊ブートキャンプ in タチカワ」のイベントで、『劇場版 怪獣8号』の2027年公開が発表されました。Key pointsAs in “LCPによると”, it shows where the information comes from. What that source reported follows. It is used differently from “私にとって”, which gives one’s own opinion.
02Giving examples with など
noun / expression + など
アニメの制作はプロダクションI.G、怪獣のデザインなどは、スタジオカラーが担当しています。Key points“暴言など” gives “abusive language” as one example. It is not necessarily a closed list of only the things named. It also helps when reading the scope of a news story.
03The polite past ました
verb stem (連用形) + ました
アニメ『怪獣8号』の完結編『劇場版 怪獣8号』が、2027年に公開されることが、24日、東京・立川のイベントで発表されました。Key pointsIn “発表しました”, ました makes a verb polite past. The negative is “ませんでした”. Read the actual date together with the date and time in the text.
04Quoting with と: content and report
plain-form sentence + と + verbe de parole (報じる, 説明する…)
そして、全力でつくりあげたい、と述べています。Key pointsと takes the content that is reported or explained. In “改定する方針だと報じました”, “改定する方針だ” is what the report said. Separating the content from who said it and how makes long sentences easier to read.
05Treating a clause like a noun with こと
plain-form sentence + こと + particle
アニメ『怪獣8号』の完結編『劇場版 怪獣8号』が、2027年に公開されることが、24日、東京・立川のイベントで発表されました。Key points“〜すること” treats an action or content like a noun. The particle after it (が・を・は…) shows its role in the sentence. “ことができる” is a fixed combination meaning “can”.
06Linking actions with the て-form
verb て-form + next expression
原作は、松本直也さんの漫画で、「少年ジャンプ+」で連載されています。Key pointsThe て-form links actions in a series, in order or as a reason. In “確認して、出発する” the relation is judged from the content. In “〜ている” it can show an action in progress or a continuing state.
