What was announced?
OpenAI’s API deprecations page shows, as of 14 October, the shutdown of several models in the GPT-4 series: gpt-4o (versions of 6 August 2024 and 20 November 2024), gpt-4o-mini (version of 18 July 2024), gpt-4.1 and gpt-4.1-mini (versions of 14 April 2025).
Until when?
In the list, the shutdown date for these models is 14 January 2027. Until then, they remain usable in the API.
What to replace them with?
OpenAI recommends gpt-6-luna as the replacement for all the models concerned. Developers who use the API should test their application before switching, because results and prices may differ. The detailed conditions are on the official page.
To keep in mind
This list concerns the API for developers; it says nothing about the ChatGPT app. Dates and model names may change: check the official page before use.
Why does it matter?
Applications and services that use the API will no longer be able to call a model after its shutdown date. According to the list, the shutdown date for the models concerned is 14 January 2027, and gpt-6-luna is recommended as the replacement. There is still time, but results and prices may change: so test your application before switching.

01The present indicative
est / sont + attribute (noun, adjective, prepositional phrase)
Dans la liste, la date d’arrêt de ces modèles est le 14 janvier 2027.Key pointsÊtre in the present is est for a singular subject and sont for a plural one. It describes nature, state or place (“is”, “is located”). If what follows (the attribute) is a noun, adjective or prepositional phrase, it is not a passive. If a past participle follows, it is a passive (est annoncé). Headlines and summaries often use the present to describe the current situation.
02The passé composé
present of avoir + past participle
OpenAI a annoncé le 14 octobre que gpt-4o, gpt-4.1 et d’autres anciens modèles ne seront plus disponibles dans son API à partir du 14 janvier 2027.Key pointsThe passé composé is the most common past tense, used for “did” and “has done” — actions completed in the past. It is formed with the auxiliary avoir (a / ont…) in the present + a past participle. Past participles of -er verbs end in -é (annoncer → annoncé); learn the irregular ones (faire → fait, prendre → pris, voir → vu). In the negative, ne … pas wraps the auxiliary (n’a pas annoncé). In the news it reports facts that have already happened, such as “announced” or “voted”.
03The futur simple
stem (infinitive) + -ai / -as / -a / -ons / -ez / -ont
OpenAI retirera gpt-4o et d’autres anciens modèles de son API le 14 janvier 2027Key pointsThe futur simple means “will do” or “is planned to”. Add -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont to the infinitive (participer → il participera). Watch the irregular stems: être → ser-, avoir → aur-, aller → ir-, faire → fer-, pouvoir → pourr-, voir → verr-. In the news it is used for fixed plans and outlooks.
04The passive voice in the present
être (est / sont) + past participle (+ par / de)
Selon la liste, la date d’arrêt des modèles concernés est le 14 janvier 2027, et gpt-6-luna est recommandé comme remplaçant.Key pointsThe passive means “is done” or “is being done”. It is formed with être + past participle, which agrees with the subject in gender and number (la mesure est adoptée / les mesures sont adoptées). The agent is introduced by par (or de). In the news it is common when the event, rather than the actor, is the focus (est prévu / est annoncé / est connu).
05The passive in the passé composé
a / ont été + past participle
Qu’est-ce qui a été annoncé ?Key pointsThe past passive means “was done”. Its form is present of avoir + été (past participle of être) + past participle. Été does not change, but the last participle agrees with the subject in gender and number (la loi a été votée / les textes ont été votés). It is frequent in news reporting results such as votes, decisions and announcements.
06The imperative
present vous form (-ez) / nous (-ons) / tu
Les dates et les noms de modèles peuvent changer : consultez la page officielle avant utilisation.Key pointsThe imperative expresses commands, requests and advice. It has no subject: the sentence starts with the verb (Consultez les informations.). The vous form ends in -ez, nous in -ons (Restons prudents.), and tu in -e for -er verbs (Consulte). It is very common in notices and warnings (Vérifiez, Consultez, Restez informé).
07Negation and its scope
ne / n’ … pas · ne … plus
OpenAI a annoncé le 14 octobre que gpt-4o, gpt-4.1 et d’autres anciens modèles ne seront plus disponibles dans son API à partir du 14 janvier 2027.Key pointsNormally ne and pas wrap the verb. Before a vowel, ne becomes n’. Check which part of the sentence the negation covers. Ne … plus means “no longer”.
08Citing a source with selon
selon + noun / organisation
Selon la liste, la date d’arrêt des modèles concernés est le 14 janvier 2027, et gpt-6-luna est recommandé comme remplaçant.Key pointsSelon means “according to”. Put a person or organisation after it as the source. It separates facts the writer checked directly from what another body or report said. Citing a source does not turn a forecast into an accomplished fact.
09Pouvoir: ability and possibility
peut / peuvent / pourrait + infinitive
Les développeurs qui utilisent l’API doivent tester leur application avant de changer, car les résultats et les tarifs peuvent différer.Key pointsPut a base-form verb after pouvoir. Peut means “can” or “may”; the conditional pourrait gives a more reserved possibility, “might”. It does not necessarily mean implementation is settled.
10The subject relative pronoun qui
noun + qui + verb
Les applications et services qui utilisent l’API ne pourront plus appeler un modèle après sa date d’arrêt.Key pointsQui continues a description of the person or thing just mentioned (“the one that does…”). Because qui is itself the subject of the next verb, do not repeat the subject. The verb agrees with the noun qui refers to.
Japanese grammar
Understand the structure and usage from the text.
01Citing a source: によると
noun + によると
一覧によると、対象のモデルの終了日は2027年1月14日で、移行先としてgpt-6-lunaが勧められています。Key pointsAs in “LCPによると”, it shows where the information comes from. What that source reported follows. It is used differently from “私にとって”, which gives one’s own opinion.
02Indicating the subject: について
noun + について
この一覧は、開発者向けのAPIについての情報です。Key pointsAs in “予算について”, it shows the topic to be talked about or explained. In the form “〜についての報道”, の is added so that the group qualifies the following noun.
03Cause or purpose with ため
〜ため / 〜ために
APIを使っている開発者は、出力や料金が変わることがあるため、切り替える前に自分のアプリで動作を確かめる必要があります。Key pointsため is used for both reason and purpose. “成立ではないため” is a reason and “運転手を守るため” a purpose. Decide from the whole sentence whether what precedes is a cause or a goal.
04Giving examples with など
noun / expression + など
OpenAIは14日、開発者向けAPIで、GPT-4oやGPT-4.1などの旧モデルの提供を2027年1月14日に終了すると公表しました。Key points“暴言など” gives “abusive language” as one example. It is not necessarily a closed list of only the things named. It also helps when reading the scope of a news story.
05The polite past ました
verb stem (連用形) + ました
OpenAIは14日、開発者向けAPIで、GPT-4oやGPT-4.1などの旧モデルの提供を2027年1月14日に終了すると公表しました。Key pointsIn “発表しました”, ました makes a verb polite past. The negative is “ませんでした”. Read the actual date together with the date and time in the text.
06Treating a clause like a noun with こと
plain-form sentence + こと + particle
日付やモデル名は、変更されることがあるため、利用前に公式ページを見てください。Key points“〜すること” treats an action or content like a noun. The particle after it (が・を・は…) shows its role in the sentence. “ことができる” is a fixed combination meaning “can”.
